7:50 – 8:15 Morning Activities
As students enter, they sign in and answer the question of the day. Students work with activities at tables or read books.
8:15 – 8:30 Opening

8:30 – 8:45 Writing Mini Lesson
The focus during this time is on writing conventions, story writing, topics,
editing, grammar, punctuation, etc.
8:45 – 9:10 Writer’s Workshop
Students make an oral plan of what they are going to write about during this time.
Students will begin the year by writing personal narratives. Children have a writing folder,
which provides each student with resources (alphabet chart, word wall, frequent spelled
words, etc.). During this time your child receives one-on-one writing assistance.
9:10 – 9:20 Share
2-3 students share their writing with the group.
9:20 – 9:40 D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read)
9:40 – 10:40 Literacy Choices
Students are busy working on word study, reading, writing, or engaged in a literacy center. Once students are working independently, guided reading begins.
Guided Reading
The teacher works with small groups of children reading from books that the child keeps to
practice.
10:40 – 10:45 Sharing
Students are given the opportunity to share what they learned or worked on during literacy
choices.
10:45 – 11:00 Rest and Read
This is a time for the children to rest and listen to a good book.
11:00 – 12:00 Lunch/Recess
For recess, childcare providers take the children outside to the children’s garden and
supervise play. Lunch is served in the classroom and is also supervised by childcare
providers and parents who volunteer.
12:00-12:10 Student Reader
12:10-12:30 Shared Reading
Books, songs, and poems are read to and with the children. Children are invited to read
along and share the reading process with the reader.
12:30 – 1:30 Logical Thinking (Math)
In the beginning of the year, you will see students experimenting with manipulatives. Children are encouraged to sort, count, group, categorize, make patterns, add, subtract, multiply, and divide. We will begin logical thinking groups soon. Our first focus will be number sense and addition and subtraction.
1:30 – 2:30 Project Work
Students make an oral plan based on information gained from an expert, field work, or a book. Students investigate, and make charts, graphs, diagrams, models, sequence books, etc. Once a project topic is complete, students will present what they learned.

3:00 – 3:10 Clean Up/Dismissal
